As a Connecticut Food Bank member program, your organization represents the front line in the fight against hunger. You know the stories of hardship and struggle for people who are food Bernard Beaudreauinsecure. And you know what’s working and what’s not in helping to find solutions to the problem.

Because of your experience and leadership, I’m inviting you to join the ranks of Connecticut Food Bank Advocates.

I recognize that advocating for the people you serve is part of what you have always done. I believe that all member agencies and supporters of the Connecticut Food Bank, working together, will amplify our collective voice to protect existing policies, and hopefully, win better public policies and programs to break the cycle of poverty and food insecurity.

Launching the Connecticut Food Bank Advocates is part of our Strategic Action Plan 2017-2020, adopted in November. The plan is built on three pillars: Strengthen, Feed and Lead:

• Strengthen – Strengthen the Connecticut Food Bank and our Member Agencies and Partners to expand capacity and capability of distribution network.
• Feed – Expand nutritious food access to reach more underserved people in need.
• Lead – Provide leadership to engage the community in the fight to end hunger.

Part of our plan to Lead includes engaging you and your network colleagues in promoting policies and programs that will end hunger. We now have a place on our website to share legislation and policies we are tracking that affect our work. Visit our Issues and Advocacy page to keep up with legislation and policies that we are monitoring.

We will provide information and links that will help you learn more or to share your opinions on these issues. Paul Shipman, our Director of Marketing, Communication and Government Relations, will lead the policy research and action work for the Connecticut Food Bank.

Please join Connecticut Food Bank Advocates. Together, we can be a powerful voice for the nearly half a million food insecure people in our state. Thank you for all you do to feed hungry people in your community.
