Large Donation from Bozzuto’s Provides Produce and Special Items

We look forward each year to Bozzuto’s Merchandisers Marketplace Food Show. This event to showcase products to retail grocers culminates in a major donation from Bozzuto’s from the products displayed. This year, four tractor-trailers arrived at the Connecticut Food Bank with a bounty of fresh produce, frozen foods, nonperishable foods, and personal care items that are also in high demand at our partner agencies.

For families that struggle with food insecurity, it’s a challenge to provide food for their households without making sacrifices. Things that many of us take for granted, such as paper towels, boxes of tissues, laundry detergent, and antiperspirant become luxuries. Households participating in SNAP are only able to use those benefits for food, meaning that these personal care items may still be out of reach. When the items appear in community pantries, they are appreciated and disappear quickly.

Donations from Connecticut’s food industry are a significant part of the product we distribute each year. Items retail stores, growers, or distributors such as Bozzuto’s help us to provide food and other resources to more than 144,000 people each month through a network of partner agencies and programs across our service area.
