Runners Race to Register for Connecticut Food Bank Miles For Meals 5K

More than 100 runners have already registered for the June 5 Norwalk race

 

WALLINGFORD, CONN., May 16, 2016 – More than 100 runners have registered online for the Connecticut Food Bank Miles For Meals 5K Race set for Sunday, June 5, at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. Presenting sponsor is Citizens Bank.

 

Runners will start at 8:30 a.m. The entry fee for individual runners is $32. Runners may register online at www.ctfoodbank.org/5K. The first 400 runners to register will receive commemorative Tech T-shirts.

 

Connecticut Food Bank Director of Engagement Sarah Morocco said that the food bank was pleased to see early registration top 100 runners. “The race is a first for us and we’re glad to see interest from runners and sponsors. We expect it will be a great day.” Morocco said the race should appeal to a broad range of runners.

“It’s a level course and offers some beautiful beach and Long Island Sound views,” she added.

 

Morocco said proceeds will benefit the Connecticut Food Bank, which works with a network of local food pantries, soup kitchens and other programs to provide nutritious food to people in need. Last year, the Connecticut Food Bank distributed enough food to prepare more than 18.5 million meals.

 

The Connecticut Food Bank Miles For Meals 5K will feature a flat course traveling through Calf Pasture Beach and the scenic Norwalk waterfront. Packet pickup and race day registration is at 7:00 a.m. and race starting time is 8:30 a.m. The post-race party will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the awards ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group.
