Connecticut Food Bank Dairy Express Brings Fresh Milk to New London
Weekly visits will begin Thursday, October 8, 9AM, at 81 Washington Street

New London, Conn., October 5, 2020 – Connecticut Food Bank Dairy Express will begin weekly stops in New London on Thursday, October 8, distributing fresh milk and other dairy products to households struggling with food insecurity. Dairy Express distributions will be held weekly on Thursdays at Elks Club parking lot at 81 Washington Street from 9:00AM to 10:30AM.

“Milk is considered a great foundation of health and nutrition,” said Connecticut Food Bank Chief Operating Officer Daniel Gomez. “Dairy Express is an additional way for us to supplement the great work of community-based programs that are providing food to people in need.”

The program is made possible with donated milk product from Borden Dairy, as well as from donations of milk and other dairy products from local supplier Guida’s Dairy. Milk from The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), a federal program that provides surplus agricultural and food products to the nation’s food banks, will also be included in future deliveries, Mr. Gomez said. “The generosity of Borden’s, our local partners at Guida’s, and the resources of TEFAP created a great opportunity for us to reach families with a product that many people want, but can’t always afford to keep at home.”

New London Mayor Michael Passero praised the partnership “that is helping people in our community get access to food that provides good nutrition and promotes healthful development in children.”

Dairy Express is staffed by Connecticut Food Bank volunteers. “We appreciate the support of donors and volunteers who are stepping up to make this program work,” Mr. Gomez said.

Connecticut Food Bank Dairy Express distributions are listed on a schedule updated weekly  and available at www.ctfoodbank.org/mobilepantry, where the schedule of upcoming Connecticut Food Bank mobile food distributions can also be found.
